Hello everyone!
I am thrilled with the progress of your children's reading! It's amazing how much they've grown since the first day of school! Very exciting!!
I am thrilled that they are asking to read and are wanting to bring home more than one book per night! Their motivation to read makes me really excited!
Now that they can sound out words and read them we are working on reading with fluency. They should be reading with feeling in their voice and grouping words together as they read. (No robot reading allowed! :)) Please encourage them to reread a sentence if they aren't reading fluently. Also, now is a great time to start asking them what is happening in the story. Here are some questions to help guide you:
Who are the characters?
What is the setting of the story? Is there more than one?
What is the problem/solution?
What is the plot? (beginning, middle, end)
Is this story real or fantasy?
How do you think _____(name a character) feels at this point in the story?
What would you do if you were the character?
If your kiddo is reading like a robot, feel free to mark it as a check and I will send the book back to be read again the next night.
Happy Reading! :)
Mindy :)
